Join a pivotal water infrastructure role where you’ll represent the asset owner and provide specialist engineering advice and policy direction across water supply and wastewater operations, upgrades and new development connections. You’ll shape development approvals and compliance (including s305 and s68 requirements), partnering with internal teams and industry to ensure today’s operational needs are met while planning for sustainable future growth.
About the role:
- Be the Water Unit’s primary contact for development-related engineering assessments, technical advice and policy direction.
- Analyse development applications against water supply and wastewater servicing requirements and draft clear, fit-for-purpose consent conditions.
- Assess and manage statutory requirements under s305-s307 of the Water Management Act and s68 of the Local Government Act, including issuing Certificates of Compliance and Completion Certificates.
- Liaise with Planning and Regulation and other internal stakeholders, and confidently manage complex stakeholder communications with developers, consultants, contractors and the community.
- Prepare high-quality reports, submissions, standards and procedures, contribute to process/system improvements and step in for the Senior Engineer - Development when required.

We are seeking:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and eligibility for the National Engineers Register (NPER), with eligibility for Corporate Membership of Engineers Australia.
- Current unrestricted driver licence (car).
- Strong technical knowledge of water supply and wastewater (sewerage) design, including relevant design and construction standards for civil works.
- Sound understanding of NSW legislation and regulations impacting water and wastewater approvals, including the Water Management Act, Local Government Act, EP&A Act and the Conveyancing Act.
- Proven capability assessing and approving subdivisions and development applications for public water and wastewater infrastructure, with strong stakeholder engagement and high-quality written and verbal communication skills.

This position is based in Tweed Heads and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Selection Criteria:
