As a cadet, you’ll follow a structured development pathway designed to help you gain both the qualifications and practical experience needed to build a rewarding career in engineering. To successfully progress to the role of Engineer - Infrastructure Delivery, cadets must complete all required training and tertiary studies as part of the cadetship program

About the role: 

  • Undertake a structured cadetship with rotations across multiple engineering units, gaining broad exposure to infrastructure delivery functions, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Build strong technical and professional skills through hands-on experience, mentoring, and formal training, supporting long-term career development in engineering.
  • Progress from a generalist rotation program to more focused areas of interest, aligned with organisational needs and individual strengths.
  • Apply learning in real-world environments, contributing to team outcomes while developing independence and practical problem-solving capability.
  • Engage in part-time university study (Bachelor of Engineering) alongside employment, with support for ongoing development, performance progression, and opportunities for higher duties.

  • full-time position on a maximum term basis up to 10 years, with the possibility of extension or permanency subject to performance, funding and operational need  
  • competitive starting salary from $47,053 per annum, plus 12% superannuation with potential to reach up to $113,007 upon completion. Salary progression is based on satisfactory completion of study plus work performance.

We are seeking: 

  • a genuine interest in Engineering - Infrastructure Delivery and a desire to build a long-term career in the industry
  • Applicants must be eligible for acceptance in a recognised university for a Bachelor of Engineering degree.
  • Strong academic record – particularly where relevant to the position and engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to work affectively in teams and individually.
  • Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills.
  • Aptitude to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. 
  • A positive attitude and self-motivated.
  • Current drivers licence.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
