About the role:

Use your civil engineering expertise to help deliver compliant, sustainable and high-quality development outcomes for the Tweed community.

As a senior technical leader, you will provide specialist engineering advice to staff, developers, consultants, applicants, Councillors, the community and internal stakeholders. You will also mentor engineering and technical staff, undertake peer reviews and support knowledge sharing, succession planning and business continuity across the Unit.

We are seeking:

  • A qualified Civil Engineer with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), eligibility for Associate or higher membership with Engineers Australia, and substantial experience in development engineering assessment, certification and infrastructure delivery.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessing complex engineering designs, subdivision works and development infrastructure, with a strong understanding of engineering standards and best practice.
  • Extensive experience in the inspection, assessment and certification of civil infrastructure construction within subdivision and development environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, provide specialist advice, and effectively negotiate and resolve complex issues.
  • Knowledge of Local Government development engineering, infrastructure delivery and statutory approval processes highly regarded.

  • This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Selection Criteria:

  • Why are you interested in working at Tweed Shire Council, and what excites you most about this particular opportunity?
  • Do you hold a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)? Please provide details of your experience and high-level competence in development engineering assessment, certification and infrastructure delivery. 
  • Describe your experience in assessing and determining complex subdivision and development applications.
  • Provide details of a complex infrastructure project that you have inspected, certified and/or managed through construction to completion.
  • Describe a situation where you were required to manage competing stakeholder interests or resolve a complex conflict relating to a development or infrastructure project.
  • Provide an example demonstrating your ability to provide senior technical leadership, specialist engineering advice and mentoring within a development engineering environment.
