Senior Engineer - Water and Wastewater Design

About the role:

  • Lead the planning, design and delivery of new water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Tweed Shire.
  • Provide specialist engineering expertise in hydraulic, water supply and sewerage system design, ensuring best-practice outcomes.
  • Act as Council's principal technical advisor and key point of reference for complex water and wastewater engineering matters.
  • Coordinate internal teams, consultants and stakeholders to progress projects through planning, approvals and design phases.
  • Represent Council as an expert witness when required and provide trusted advice on policy, standards and regulatory compliance.

We are seeking:

  • A qualified Civil Engineer with a degree in Civil Engineering and extensive experience in water and wastewater engineering.
  • Proven expertise in the design, delivery and management of water supply and sewerage infrastructure projects within a local government or similar environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing, mentoring and supporting technical staff and project teams.
  • Sound knowledge of water and wastewater operations, including the maintenance and performance of network infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated understanding of water treatment and sewage treatment processes, operations and control systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NSW water and sewerage legislation, regulations, standards and industry best practice.
  • Experience in water and sewerage planning, project budgeting, cost estimation and the use of engineering software such as AutoCAD and hydraulic modelling tools.

This position is based in Tweed Heads and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Selection Criteria:

  • Describe your experience in the design and delivery of water supply and sewerage infrastructure projects. Include examples of relevant projects and your role.
  • Outline your experience working within a local government or similar engineering environment, including design, construction, contract administration, and asset management activities.
  • Provide an example of your experience leading, supervising, or mentoring staff and project teams.
  • Describe your knowledge and experience of water and wastewater operations, including water treatment and sewage treatment processes, and your application of relevant NSW legislation, standards, and industry best practice.
  • Outline your experience in water and sewerage planning, project budgeting, cost estimation, and the use of engineering software such as AutoCAD and hydraulic modelling tools.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of water supply and sewerage mechanical and electrical systems.
