We have an exciting opportunity for a Communication Officer to join our Communication and Creative Services section.

Working as part of our high-performing Communication and Customer Experience team and as a business partner with Council services, your role will be to inform, educate and engage the Tweed community and our staff so they get the most of Council programs and services.

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced team player who can use their visual and written communication and storytelling skills to produce content for traditional, social and digital channels.

The ideal candidate will be someone who understands and uses technology, is aware of change management and has a passion for internal and corporate communications to help inform and engage our workforce.

It is hands-on, proactive role that will suit someone who enjoys a buzzing, productive environment and is able to prioritise workload to meet business needs. The successful candidate will take pride in producing quality and engaging content that cuts through the noise.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Prepare and execute communication and engagement plans in collaboration with business partners and project teams.
  • Create effective content in plain language for a range of audiences and channels.
  • Use their digital skills to produce exciting video content.
  • Enjoy collaborating and have a flexible approach with a willingness to work outside of hours on occasions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce innovative and creative promotional and marketing solutions to promote services and programs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare, deliver and evaluate campaigns using online and web channels.

We are seeking:

  • Demonstrated and relevant industry experience in a similar role.
  • Visual communicators and storytellers, with an ability to write in plain language for different audiences and channels.
  • Willingness to collaborate, with a flexible approach and work outside of hours on occasions.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate communications plans/projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce innovative and creative promotional and marketing solutions to promote services and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing, utilising and evaluating online and web technology

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Essential:

1. Demonstrated and relevant industry experience in a similar role.
2. Demonstrated experience in developing, delivering and evaluating effective, creative and innovative communication and marketing campaigns.
3. Demonstrated experience as a visual communicator and story-teller through the production of digital or graphically designed content such as video, audio/podcasts, infographics for social and digital communication channels.
4. Demonstrated ability to write in plain language for different audiences and channels including publications, online, news and creative writing.
5. Demonstrated experience in coordinating events.
6. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills to effectively influence, negotiate
objectives and outcomes and resolve conflict.
7. High level visual and verbal communication skills to effectively present and engage with public audiences/groups and design visually appealing presentation materials.
8. High-level ability to produce documents in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and the Adobe Creative Suite.
9. Current vehicle licence – Car.

Desirable:

10. Degree or postgraduate qualifications in relevant disciplines such as
communications, marketing, public relations or journalism.
11. Relevant experience working in a government or local government environment.
