Leading Hand - Resource Recovery

Location: Stott's Creek Resource Recovery Centre

The Leading Hand - Resource Recovery is responsible for the supervision and coordination of daily work schedules for waste operations that deliver Council’s Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre (SCRRC) goals.  Undertake maintenance and development of Council’s Resource Recovery Facility to ensure safe and effective operations in accordance with relevant regulations.


About the role:

  • Reports to the Resource Recovery Supervisor
  • Coordinate the daily activities at the SCRRC
  • Identify improvements to the Resource Recovery facility by providing input to the design and construction of projects and waste assets within the site
  • Supervise staff, contractors and waste management officers in the operations at the SCRRC, operating in the weighbridge, on rehabilitation and site operations including all public facing areas
  • Work with the Resource Recovery team to assist in delivering the emergency services response during adverse conditions ie floods.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Stott's Creek Resources Recovery Centre (Eviron), and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Essential – (please provide evidence and examples of your experience in the following):
1. Hold a Current Vehicle Licence – Car as a minimum, Light Rigid, Medium Rigid, Heavy Rigid or Heavy Combination will be desirable.
2. Plant tickets or competencies for front end loader, excavator and forklift
3. Training such as frontline management or other management training course
4. Chemical user’s certificate. (Chemcert certificate).
5. Your background in:
a. The supervision of staff, plant and physical resources for maintenance activities
b. estimating work activity resources and in preparing cost estimates for maintenance work,
c. reading and understanding plans/drawings
d. weighbridge operation and quality controls
e. site and roadway traffic control, and
f. implementing and maintaining environmental protection devices.
6. Oral communication skills and competence in handling public enquiries, complaints and in dealing with conflict
7. Management and maintenance of waste operational areas.

8. General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
9. Knowledge of Council’s Landfill Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Protection Licences.
10. Knowledge of Council’s Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
11. Competent in the taking of water samples and completing associated monitoring requirements and documentation.
