The Opportunity

Uralla Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced Work Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor to join our team on a permanent full‑time basis.

Reporting to the Manager People and Wellbeing, this role is responsible for facilitating the development, implementation, integration and ongoing monitoring of Council’s Work Health and Safety management system, policies, procedures and practices.

Working closely with managers, frontline staff and contractors, the WHS Advisor provides practical guidance, education and leadership to support day‑to‑day WHS activities, promote safe behaviours and ensure compliance with legislative and organisational requirements. Candidate Profile

Our ideal candidate will hold formal qualifications in Work Health and Safety or have equivalent relevant experience in a similar role.

You will be an effective communicator with well‑developed interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce and adapt your approach to varying operational environments.

Experience across multiple industries, including construction or high‑risk work environments, will be highly regarded. You will take a practical and integrated approach to WHS, risk management, internal audit and continuous improvement, and demonstrate initiative and innovation in strengthening safety awareness and frameworks.

The position requires regular field‑based work across Council operations, so a willingness to work on the ground, travel locally and utilise technology effectively is essential.

What we Offer

This is a permanent full‑time position working a 35‑hour week (9‑day, 70‑hour fortnight), offering variety, challenge and an interesting scope of work across Council’s diverse operations.

In return for your skills, commitment and contribution, Uralla Shire Council is offering a competitive commencing salary of $108,134 plus superannuation, in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2023, with annual legislated award increases.
