Your New Role    

In this newly created role of Vinnies Van Services Coordinator, you will coordinate effective and efficient operation of Metropolitan Van Services and the associated support activities, including volunteer coordination. Sydney Metropolitan Van Services operate 6 vans across the Sydney Metropolitan Region. The service is dedicated to supporting people who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness within the Sydney Greater metropolitan region. Distributing meals, blankets and information to people who access the service. Most importantly, providing friendship, support and compassion to those we assist.

Your responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the operations of the service comply with the policies and procedures of the service, the St Vincent de Paul Society and relevant government regulations including WHS and Food Handling standards.
  • Ensure Night Patrol volunteers are adequately supported to deliver services each evening, this will require some after hours on-call support.
  • Liaise with the client group, government agencies, community groups, corporate organisations and other relevant individuals and build partnerships with relevant stakeholders to facilitate financial and in-kind sponsorship and support
  • Oversee the maintenance of the program, including working with stakeholders, van services, kitchen areas and office spaces.
  • Manage all vehicle maintenance and registrations are compliant
  • Lead a team of employees and volunteers including effective attraction, recruitment, on-boarding and training to deliver services and support for the program.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for staff, members and volunteers by implementing the Society’s workplace health and safety practices.
  • Ensure that effective risk management protocols and procedures are in place to ensure compliance with legal, employment and governance requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need: 

  • Previous administrative experience including the use of Microsoft Office Products and advanced organisation and time management abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and relationship management skills communication and organisational skills.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage both staff and volunteers
  • Proven ability to provide small and large group education sessions to a range of age groups on social justice issues.
  • Sound knowledge of issues surrounding homelessness
  • Understanding and experience with conflict resolution
  • Unrestricted Driver’s License and the confidence to drive a small truck and minivan
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WH&S and Food Handling requirements
