ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

 

Under the direction of the recreation manager is responsible to assist in planning, organizing and implementing/conducting programs to enhance the physical, cultural, social, spiritual and intellectual well being of the residents.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of a diploma in recreation/leisure studies, therapeutic recreation from a recognized community college or university, courses in Gerontology. Experience with Assisted Care, Dementia, and/or Alzheimer seniors preferred. Knowledge of programs and techniques in recreation, community resources and program development required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working with minimal supervision, innovative skills and be able to organize, plan and assess programs. Must have 1-2 years’ experience in recreation programming for senior’s population.  Must have or willing to obtain class “F” license to porter residents by van.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Participates actively in and contributes to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts leisure and recreation programs for the residents.
  • Promotes resident awareness and participation in leisure and recreation programs.
  • Contributes to establishing new programs, policies and procedures that support the programs and operation of the department.
  • Maintains records for department including assessments, evaluations of planned programs and attendance/participation records.
  • Assists in planning, organizing and developing special events, revenue generating programs, internal and external promotional activities in collaboration with marketing staff and other members of the management team. 
  • Requisitions supplies and materials as needed for programs under the direction of the recreation manager.
  • Works with family members, volunteer and community groups to implement activities and programs that enrich the daily lives of the residents.
  • Assists the recreation manager in reviewing and maintaining a department policy and procedure manual.
  • Participates in monthly audits for recreation department to identify opportunities for improvement and to ensure resident satisfaction.
  • Assists with the training and supervision of volunteers.
  • Assists with the development of the monthly calendar.
  • Assists other managers in planning and implementing resident programs and services based on residents needs 
  • Demonstrates safety consciousness by maintaining a clean and safe work environment, practicing good body mechanics and lifting/transfer techniques.
  • Adheres to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems.  This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
