ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the Vice-President, People, provides proactive services, problem-solving, advice and support to the residences, on human resource & labour relations matters.  The ultimate objective is to support and contribute to the attainment of the organization’s objective of being an exemplary employer and provider of unsurpassed quality of care and service, while achieving a reasonable return on investment for its shareholders, including supporting the culture of the company and ensuring that the values of the organization are communicated and understood at all levels.

 

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

A related university or college degree.  A minimum of three years of experience in a labour relations and human resources position in a mid- to large-sized company is required, with a preference within the healthcare or hospitality section.  A high level of spoken and written communication skills, and demonstrated capacity to influence and earn the respect of others, is essential. A certified Human Resources Professional designation would be of advantage.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as the primary liaison when employee relations issues arise and guide managers through problem solving and to a satisfactory resolution of issues.
  • Provides support for recruitment, social media, career site, applicant tracking system (ATS) and all other recruitment programs.
  • Organizes training programs and on-line learning calendar to support employee satisfaction, growth and talent development. 
  • Contributes to the advancement of talent development.
  • Assists with the implementation of a human resources management system (HRMS).
  • Supports diversity and inclusion initiatives and Committee(s).
  • Participates in promoting a positive work environment, wellness programs, and Verve culture.
  • Advises on regulatory and related compliance as it relates to Human Resources and Labour Relations areas, in the provinces in which the Company operates. 
  • Participates in residence audits, providing reports and recommendations.
  • Supports the negotiation of collective agreements for designated residences.
  • Recommends to general managers/administrators decisions based on collective agreements and policies, and provides interpretation/administration of the collective agreements.
  • Handles final step grievances.  Provides representation and input to the interest arbitration process as necessary.
  • Provides proactive services, problem solving, performance management advice and counsel to administrators and line managers in all human resources areas.
  • Provides advice and education on coaching, counselling and the disciplinary process.
  • Assists in the recruitment for salaried staff including interviews and the preparation of offer letters, contracts of employment, etc.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of orientation procedures and programs for new hires, and assists with the training in all aspects of human resources.
  • Assists with the orientation and training for managers in the People policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures, and responds to inquiries from staff regarding these policies.
  • Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) Program.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System.  This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Performs other related tasks as delegated by the Vice-President, People.
