ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
Assess each resident to determine their current state of wellbeing as it relates to their body, mind and spirit. Plans, implements and evaluates activities designed to inspire residents in accordance with the vision, values and standards of Diversicare/ Verve Senior Living.
BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS
Has completed a minimum of grade 12. Must have a 2 year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or have a combination of education and experience in a field related to leisure services for seniors. Has proficient computer skills (i.e. Word and Excel). Written and verbal fluency in English is required. Has demonstrated excellent leadership skills (i.e. Diversicare/ Verve Senior Living Competencies). Has a valid provincial Class 4 driver’s license and a clean driving record. Must have a valid basic First Aid certificate. Dementia experience/knowledge is an asset. A resident-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of Diversicare.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
Assists the National Wellness Leader in rolling out key initiatives and programs, and provides constructive feedback.
Participates in mandatory regular teleconferences with the National Wellness Leader.
Participates in regional Life Enrichment Manager cluster meetings.
Leads programming in independent living, assisted living, and memory care residences/homes.
Completes initial and ongoing assessment of each resident to determine their interests and possible barriers to a fulfilling leisure lifestyle. Notifies appropriate departments of any changes with residents.
Effectively communicates and promotes the activities to residents, staff, families and the community to encourage participation. Collaborates with Marketing on joint events. Produces and distributes a monthly calendar of events.
Gathers and documents statistics monthly on participation in each activity.
Participates in Resident Care Conferences on a regular basis (if applicable).
Develops/maintains relationships with community groups, senior groups, local churches and service organizations.
Maintains the residence’s bus, including legislated inspection reports, insurance coverage, cleaning and servicing (may not be applicable to all homes).
Recruits, interviews and selects candidates. Serves as a leader and helps develop employees to ensure an adequate level of service and job standard are achieved. Conducts annual performance appraisals and addresses performance issues. Oversees and prepares staff scheduling to include shift changes, vacation and leaves of absence.
Plays a role in the modification and/or communication of Diversicare/Verve Senior Living policies and procedures. Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Completes all required mandatory training/education.
Provides input into the preparation of the capital and operational budgets. Manages the department finance, including inventory management, purchasing and discretionary activities. Helps to review and promote initiatives that generate revenue (if applicable). Provides input for variance reports for any negative financial statements.
Participates in volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, recognition, evaluation and ongoing support. Meets appropriate school protocols for student placements, including insurance and signed agreements as per Diversicare/Verve Senior Living policy. Coordinates monthly volunteer meetings.
Performs other related tasks as delegated by the General Manager.
