Accountability/Objective

Under the direction of the Dining Services Manager, responsible for the preparation, delivery and serving of meals to residents, and the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment in accordance with specific standards and regulations.

Background/Qualifications

Some previous cooking experience is required. Must have a valid Food Handler's certificate. Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally in English.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in and contributes to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Program.
  • Prepares meals in the dining room to residents and guests.
  • Receives, stores and controls products to be used.
  • Implements portion control methods during meal service.
  • Forecasts food production requirements on a daily basis, and plans for effective utilization of left over bulk foods.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the food preparation area and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
  • Performs other dietary related tasks as assigned.
  • Complies with other infection control protocols as directed, e.g. outbreak management.
  • Attends appropriate in-service education opportunities within the residence.
  • Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required annual mandatory training/education.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System, and Food Premises Regulations. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
