ACCOUNTABILITY & OBJECTIVE:
Under the direction of the Director of Care, is responsible for the provision of the resident care in keeping with the Diversicare Philosophy, Objectives and Standards and according to licensing regulations pertaining to the Community Care and Assisted Living Act.
Plans, organizes, co-ordinates, supervises and is accountable for the effective use of resources to meet residents’ needs in Orchard Manor and for ensuring resident satisfaction on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week.
BACKGROUND QUALIFICATIONS:
A Licensed Practical Nurse possessing a current British Columbia license, with medication certificate.
Experience with Geriatrics and Long-Term Care Nursing, as well as demonstrated leadership, administrative abilities, and good communication and interpersonal skills are desirable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the Hawthorn Park Management Team, is responsible for implementing the objectives, policies, procedures and appropriate organization of Orchard Manor to ensure agreed to and necessary standards of resident care.
Provides professional nursing input in Orchard Manor and also the Retirement portion of Hawthorn Park when called upon as a result of emergency call from residents, giving assistance where possible, and contacting other professional help and/or family when necessary.
Provides delegation of tasks to health care attendants providing service to Assisted Living residents.
Utilizes the nursing process in planning, providing, and supervising nursing care administered in Orchard Manor. Ensures quality care through an ongoing Continuous Quality Improvement program. Is aware of, and applies, current developments in nursing and geriatric care.
Demonstrates clinical expertise in providing and coordinating care for residents in Orchard Manor.
Assesses changing care needs of the residents. Establishes treatment and education programs for residents and/or families as required.
Liaises with residents’ families, physicians, agencies, community, and health care related disciplines to ensure the most effective provision of nursing care is delivered in Orchard Manor.
Participates in determining health service and staffing needs of Orchard Manor; plans time schedules to ensure effective utilization.
Maintains effective communication and good relations with residents, families, and staff using appropriate lines of communication.
Participates with all departments to ensure an emotional, physical, and spiritual environment exists which is conducive to the provision and practice of therapeutically effective care.
Reviews all applications for move-in of residents to Orchard Manor, interviews families as necessary and processes move-ins, transfers, and move-out of residents.
Evaluates own performance on a yearly basis and develops goals for professional and personal growth.
Carries out other assignments as delegated by the Director of Care.
