Our Long Term Care Unit has a capacity for 46 Residents. The DOC has the support of a full time ADOC, part time Unit Clerk, a LPN on duty 24 hours per day, a complement of Health Care Attendants and support staff. Hours of work are primarily Monday to Friday with some after hours on call required. Our Assisted Living Health & Wellness Manager (RN) position also provides support and vacation coverage.

 ACCOUNTABILITY & OBJECTIVE:

 Is responsible for the overall efficient operation of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, security and communication systems.

 

Is responsible for responding to and performing any hands-on maintenance and preventative maintenance duties in a residential hospitality setting in all of the residence areas in a safe efficient and friendly manner with consideration for residents and staff.

 

Is responsible for monitoring all Hawthorn Park Maintenance contracts and warranties.

 

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:

 Certificate in Building Services or equivalent experience.  A proven handy person with prior experience in working professionally with senior clientele is preferred.

 

Ability to maintain effective oral and written communications in English.

 

Ability to study building plans, suite layouts and building audit/deficiencies standards.

 

Demonstrated leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills. Be able to demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.  Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.  Must be flexible and versatile, a team player.

 

Knowledge of WHMIS, and First Aid.

 

A person with a positive self projection, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members.  A people-person with a heart for seniors and a positive, outgoing disposition.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Responsible for the full training and supervision of department staff.  Interviews, selects, hires, does performance appraisals, disciplines, recommends terminations, ensures provision of appropriate staff development/in-service, and schedules.

 

Performs repairs and preventative maintenance duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility in a timely and friendly manner.

 

Ensures that fire safety regulations are adhered to and that regular fire frills are conducted.

 

Makes recommendations for maintenance budget planning to the General Manager.  Maintains maintenance budget and cost analysis of same.

 

Member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Continuous Quality Improvement Committee and Management Team Committee.

 

Regular review and continuance, extension, or cancellation of all maintenance contracts.  Monitors all product warranties. Maintains accurate control of all Master Keys.

 

Studies Resident Handbook and Rental Agreement to familiarize the services we offer and those that may be billable. Maintains adequate records of duties and services performed.

 

Ensures effective team communication within the residence, logs all maintenance done in the Maintenance Communication Book.

 

Demonstrates evidence of outstanding public relations skills with residents, potential clients, staff, and all persons visiting Hawthorn Park.

 

Inspects suites prior to occupancy and maintains Suite Audits. Demonstrates flexibility when there are move-ins and move -outs and performs upgrading of suites. 

 

Responds to emergencies appropriately

 

Shares responsibility, through in-service and education, in safety standards of the residence.

 

Weekly upkeep of exterior common areas and garbage container areas.

 

Accepts and signs for deliveries if required, and ascertains accurate paperwork flow

 

Handles all matters in a confidential manner.
