ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Responsible for food assist preparation, kitchen hygiene including dishwashing and customer service. Job duties include assisting Chef/Dining Services Manager and Cook 1, managing inventory, product quality, inspecting stores and ensuring all cleaning routines are implemented within the guidelines of licensing and regulatory standards.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS 

Has completed a minimum of grade 12. Has completed the institutional cooks program (or equivalent). A minimum of two years of experience in volume food preparation at a Cook II level in an institutional setting preferred. Has obtained a Food Handler’s certificate. Written and verbal fluency in English is required. Proficient computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, and familiar with online ordering systems and dietary software) is preferred. A resident-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of Verve.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.

Implements an appetizing and well-balanced, nutritious menu in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide, and the dietary needs and wishes of residents.

Collaborates with all departments to provide refreshments, snacks, and/or catering.

Ensures weekly menus have been approved by a recognized dietician (including in-season local products). Also ensures weekly menus have been produced as per Chef/Dining Services Manager’s instructions. In absence of the Dining Services Manager, may order dining services supplies.

Distributes resident meals. Enhances selection through menu options and a variety of condiments. Plates and garnishes meals in an attractive manner. Serves an assortment of alcoholic beverages.

Ensures that food samples and temperature records are taken and labelled as per regulations. Ensures food temperature is maintained or cooked in smaller batches.

Controls expenses through repurposing leftovers, portion control and waste management protocols.

Participates in audits regularly for feedback and attends interdisciplinary committee meetings regarding nutritional issues (as required).

Provides outstanding public relations with residents, potential clients, staff, suppliers and all residents’ guests.

Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents and/or any changes to resident’s daily life, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.

Completes all required mandatory training/education.

Contributes to the overall appearance and cleanliness of The Village Langley.

Performs other related tasks as delegated by the Chef/Dining Services Manager.
