About the Company:

WHSmith is an historic British retailer focusing on news, books, and convenience, and is a renowned, competitive leader in the travel market worldwide. Our Australian operations, under which 7 brands currently operate, are rapidly expanding, and we are looking for an additional Buying Assistant to join the Head Office team and become a key part of the Commercial function.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, the Merchandise Planner is responsible for sales planning and forecasting inventory levels to drive sales. This role will support the development and adherence to stock and ranging processes in conjunction with the Commercial and Finance teams.

In this role, your duties will include:

  • Develop seasonal sales plans and ensure inventory targets are set
  • Analyse inventory targets and deliver instocks to appropriate levels to support sales plan
  • Deliver KPIs through working closely with Inventory and Buying teams
  • Identify slow moving stock and ensure exit strategies are identified and recommended to appropriate buying team members
  • Work with the buying teams to deliver accurate promotional forecasts
  • Create and develop stock management processes
  • Establish processes for seasonal sales forecasting and range cascade documentation
  • Plan and execute seasonal and promotional stock pushes and manage exit from the same
  • Analyse and refine current sales planning processes
  • Ad hoc administration across the Commercial team

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a passionate individual to jump on board to demonstrates the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an inventory planning role
  • Proven experience developing effective processes
  • Experience in a Retail environment
  • Experience with Power BI is desirable
  • Solution focused
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Initiative and drive
