Our Australian operations, under which 7 brands currently operate, are rapidly expanding and since WHSmith is expected to continue this growth, we are looking for an experienced Commercial Analyst to join us on this journey.
About the Role:
The Commercial Analyst is responsible for collaborating with various departments to provide guidance relating to forecasting, budgets, and longer-term strategic plans. In order to succeed in this role, you will have a highly analytical and curious mind with a passion for data. You will be able to draw meaningful insights from your analysis of our business to support strong decision-making across the business.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Analyse sales data and identify trends to identify future sale opportunities
- Interpret data, analyse business trends and performance, to provide insightful analysis and reporting to drive effective decision-making
- In collaboration with the commercial team, develop budgets and sales forecasts
- Development of commercial models to understand profitability
- Review and consolidate weekly and monthly results, including insight and commentary
- Provide weekly and monthly reporting and value add analysis
- Develop exception report to expose underperforming areas and identify root cause
- Support the Commercial team to review and analyse the success of past and future promotional activities, along with assisting the Commercial team to deliver category results and KPI’s through weekly and monthly trade insights, profitability, and performance analysis
- Pro-active involvement in process improvements
- Look for opportunities to streamline existing reporting and develop tools to support proactive decision making
- Ad hoc collaboration with the Finance team on reporting and other analytical tasks
Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years in a relevant Analyst position
- Strong communication skills & writing and presentation abilities
- Experience working within a multi-site retail/FMCG business
- Ability to work under pressure and establish priorities
- Financial management skills
- Experience in financial and statistical analysis and/or modelling
- Business acumen, financial literacy, and an understanding of business trends
- Degree qualified
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
