As a Chef at the Alfred Hospital Precinct operated by Food by WHSmith, you'll need to be able to operate in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Be comfortable multitasking to ensure that our customers receive the highest level of service and quality food offering.

 

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare and cook menu items as per company standards.  
  • Conduct checks on prepared dishes to ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portion sizes. 
  • Monitor and maintain food stock levels, communicating with the Kitchen Operations Manager about replenishment needs. 
  • Uphold food safety and hygiene standards consistently. 
  • Provide guidance and support to kitchen staff, ensuring productivity and adherence to quality standards. 
  • Train new team members and assist in the ongoing development of existing staff. 
  • Act as a point of contact and decision-maker when the Kitchen Operations Manager is unavailable. 
  • Monitor kitchen workflows to maintain efficiency in a fast-paced environment 

 

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • 2-3 years of experience in a high-volume kitchen environment. 
  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification. 
  • Strong understanding of food safety practices and processes. 
  • Experience cooking in bulk and following standard recipe cards. 
  • Excellent communication and time management skills. 
  • Experience in bulk catering or large-scale food production (desirable).
