About the Position

As a Buyer at WHSmith Australia, you will be responsible for our Tech Journey Solutions & Telco categories and will take ownership of the day-to-day operations and growth of those areas.

You will be responsible for the growth of InMotion across Australia, including for 2 standalone InMotion sites in Perth and Gold Coast Airports.

Your main priority is to meet the needs of our customers within the challenging travel retail market, whilst delivering profit targets.

Other key responsibilities include: 

• Sourcing and developing supplier relationships so that the organisation’s opportunities to buy the right merchandise at the right price at the right time are maximised
• Grow and develop new areas of business identified as strategic growth opportunities
• Identify market trends by researching, product history, supplier information, current trends, and competitor activity
• Analysis of historical statistical data by reviewing sales, profit, stock-turn, markdowns, by colour, subclass, and supplier performance
• Conducting regular analysis of sales, margins, stock levels and markdowns and revaluate merchandise plan accordingly
• Maintain collaborative relationships with stores through regular visits and phone calls  

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have a passion for Tech and Journey Solutions and will be committed to helping our business grow and succeed. The following qualities are also essential: 

• Proven experience as a Buyer (3 years minimum)
• Experience as a Tech Buyer is preferable

• Exceptional negotiation skills
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and market information
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain supplier relationships
• A results-driven mindset with a focus on meeting targets
• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
