About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections covering a wide array of services such as clinical care and social and emotional well being, health promotions, sports and active lifestyle and administrative services. This diversity allows for a holistic approach to health, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi health service delivery area stretches north of Tennant Creek to Elliott, across to the east, almost to the QLD border and south to Ali Curung - almost 150,000 square km.

About the Opportunity 

Anyinginyi now has an exciting opportunity for a Sport & Recreation Team Leader to join their team in Tennant Creek, NT. This is a full-time, 1-2 year contract position, with extension likely for the right person, subject to funding. 

The Sport & Recreation team work across a rotating roster of 3 shifts:

  • 5.30am - 2.30pm
  • 8am - 5pm 
  • 11am - 8pm

There is also the requirement to work a Sunday, once every 6 weeks. This will be paid at double time and when required, you will work reduced hours on the preceding Friday to compensate.

Reporting to the Sport & Recreation Section Manager this role will see you responsible for providing an efficient and effective Community Sports and Recreation Program to Aboriginal people in Tennant Creek and the surrounding communities. The Team Leader must also ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented to ensure protection, safety and welfare of all visitors with a particular emphasis on young people (person under 18 years).

More specifically, some of your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Providing a diverse and quality Sports and Recreation program for Aboriginal people living in the Barkly Region;
  • Ensuring that regular stock-takes of Anyinginyi Sports & Recreation Centre assets and equipment are undertaken and appropriate measures are implemented and maintained for their security;
  • Training and supervising Aboriginal staff to develop appropriate skills, expertise and experience in managing community sports and recreation programs;
  • Attending meetings, preparing reports, maintaining records, completing administrative requirements and performing other duties pertinent to the effective management of Anyinginyi’s Sports and Recreation Programs.

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold a minimum of a Certificate III-IV in fitness, management or similar and a sound understanding of the importance of a fit and healthy lifestyle as it relates to the whole wellbeing of individuals, family and community. 

Ideally you would have had previous experience in a similar role and/or in a managerial/supervisory capacity however this is not mandatory, providing you have had experience in some capacity in outdoor education and working with kids and young people (ie maybe coaching the local soccer team). 

Critical to your success in this position will be an understanding of Aboriginal traditions and customs and/or a willingness to incorporate Aboriginal culture and traditions into service delivery.

This role could be well-suited to a recent graduate and/or someone with a solid network in sports (football, basketball, netball, etc) that can be utilised to expand Anyinginyi's funding, programs or educational opportunities. 

The Team Leader must also be flexible in performing their duties regarding the hours which are essential for the Centre to be open. Occasional (non-frequent) weekend work and travel to communities will be required for attendance at sporting events (ie Basketball, Football competitions).

Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required, is also essential for this role.
