About Youth+

Edmund Rice Education Australia Youth+ is a network of flexible learning centres that offer young people an opportunity to reconnect with education in a setting that is non-judgemental, inclusive and flexible. With a focus on literacy and numeracy, all programming and learning is developed based on young people’s individual learning plans which are customised based on learning levels and what they require to re-engage.

The Mount Isa Flexible Learning Centre (MIFLC) is a coeducational Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition under the Wollemi Flexi Schools Network. A small school with steadily growing enrolments, it has a clear commitment to social justice and stands in solidarity with disadvantaged young people of all social, cultural and religious backgrounds, with a particular sensitivity to Indigenous culture. The school provides holistic learning experiences that address the social needs of students and promotes their emotional, cognitive, spiritual and academic development.

MIFLC operates under the principles of Respect, Participation, Honesty, and Safe and Legal. These principles represent broad directions for group practice and establish a common ethical framework that promotes appropriate learning and personal relationships.

About the Opportunity

Wollemi Flexi Schools Network now has an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a full-time Curriculum Coordinator to join MIFLC on a full-time, fixed-term 2-year contract basis, with likelihood of extension for the right candidate.

This is a newly created and pivotal early leadership role that will see you working in a dual capacity both on curriculum development with the Teaching Learning Teams and as a Teacher to deploy and deliver customised curriculum to young people.

You will work closely with the Teaching Learning Teams to assist them in the development and maintenance of the learning and social inclusion responses of the school including planning, preparation and delivery of effective learning and teaching programs for the young people.

You will also undertake a teaching role at the school, implementing teaching strategies that cater for the needs of secondary-aged students who have disengaged from mainstream education, encouraging a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include:

  • Overseeing the development and implementation of learning choices/educational programs which engage and support the individual learning plans of each young person;
  • Embedding indigenous cultural perspectives within learning programs;
  • Creating and maintaining a socially inclusive program that responds to the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and cultural needs of the young people;
  • Developing cultural links, community and family connections which support the engagement and connection of young people to learning and the wider community; and
  • Building connections with families to support learning outcomes for each young person.

You will be able to cope with rapid change in daily plans and develop individualised approaches for individual student needs. You will have demonstrated experience designing and delivering various learning programs that integrate well-being into your pedagogy and curriculum, in addition to a flexible and patient behaviour management approach.

Most importantly, you must have the desire and passion to work with the young people of Mount Isa, with exceptional interpersonal and intercultural communication and negotiation skills that enable you to engage and invest in the community to build trusting relationships.

Please note: This role requires regular travel throughout Mount Isa, and as such, possession of a current, unrestricted 'C' class Australian Driver's License is required (LR class highly desirable).

About the Benefits

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with a highly attractive remuneration base package circa $70,000 - $100,900 plus responsibility allowance and super, dependent on your years of experience and qualifications (in line with the Catholic Employing Authorities Single Enterprise Collective Agreement - Religious Institute of Schools Of Queensland 2015-2019).

This role is open to applicants from all over Australia, with relocation and accommodation assistance on offer for the successful candidate!

This is a fantastic opportunity to become involved with a multidisciplinary and supportive workplace while reaping the incredible rewards that arise from overcoming the challenges faced day to day. You will see the direct impact you've made on young people's educational journey during your time with MIFLC and will enjoy a long-lasting and extremely gratifying career.
