Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) is a not-for-profit organisation with the aim to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and to empower those affected by it.

CRDVS provides a range of comprehensive and client centred quality services to people who have experienced and/or are experiencing domestic violence, including adult and child counselling, advocacy and court support and training.

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) now has a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Domestic Violence Worker to join their Cairns, QLD team. This position is being offered on a fixed term contract basis to 1st February, 2020, with expected commencement in January, 2019.

As a Domestic Violence Worker your primary responsibility will be to provide crisis intervention, including intake and assessment; crisis counselling; case management and medium to long-term domestic violence counselling to persons who are affected by domestic and family violence.

A secondary responsibility of this position is to work closely with, and to deputise (during periods of extended absence) for the Lead Case Manager by participating in, and coordinating, the High Risk Team (HRT), co-located at the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women (DCSYW) Cairns office.

More specifically, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Assisting with Domestic Violence Protection Order applications and providing information and general assistance to the aggrieved and female respondents in relation to protection orders at Cairns Domestic Violence Court;
  • Providing group work, community education and interagency co-operation to work towards a concerted approach for the elimination of domestic and family violence within the region;
  • Preparing and maintaining appropriate, accurate and confidential records of client work, including case management plans, reports and assessments as appropriate;
  • Working flexibly with a variety of modalities appropriate to counselling people as their individual needs and learning styles dictate; and
  • Working cooperatively as a member of a team to achieve the smooth and effective functioning of the service.

What We Need From You

The possession of degree level tertiary qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences (eg Psychology, Social Work, Counselling), is essential for you to be considered for this position. Candidates who apply without these qualifications will not be considered. 

 

 

 

You will also need to have demonstrated experience in providing crisis counselling, risk assessment, case management, group work, advocacy and crisis intervention, with at least 2 years specialised experience in the areas of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. 

 

Any experience working as part of a HRT will be highly regarded, but is not mandatory, providing you can recognise high-risk indicators. 



Importantly, you will be resilient, be comfortable working in a collaborative team environment, and have a sound knowledge of legislation impacting on situations of domestic and family violence. 



Please note: Some travel in and around the Cairns region is a requirement of this position so the successful candidate must hold a current Driver's License. A Working with Children Card and a formal police criminal history check must also be obtained prior to commencement.
