About the Opportunity

Due to ongoing growth, Council now has a newly created opportunity for a Planning Officer to join their Planning and Environmental Services Department. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role, with a fortnightly RDO and occasional overtime.

Reporting to the Planning Services Coordinator, the Planning Officer plays a critical role in delivering planning services to support sustainable economic growth and development in the Kyogle local government area. Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Assessing development applications in accordance with relevant legislation and planning instruments;
  • Assisting in the preparation of strategic and statutory planning documents such as Local Strategic Planning Statements, Local Environmental Plans and Development Control Plans;
  • Carrying out site inspections and monitoring the construction of new development to ensure compliance with approved plans and conditions of development consent; and
  • Preparing reports on development, planning and other matters as required.

About You

This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate to kick start their career in Planning! 

To be considered for this position you will hold tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or similar and have a current, open Driver's License. You will be comfortable working autonomously and have the ability to use your initiative in decision-making as appropriate, in order to free up the Planning Services Coordinator to focus on more strategic planning matters.

Importantly, you will be calm under pressure, with the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with all levels of staff and the public and represent Council in a professional and appropriate manner.

This role would be well-suited to an early career professional who has a genuine interest in living and working in the Kyogle region and a desire to build and grow a career within a small, yet highly progressive, energetic and collaborative Council environment.

This position is a 'career-graded' position which means professionals at various stages of their career may be assessed as suitable for appointment to this position, depending on their qualifications and experience. 

A competitive remuneration package is on offer between Grade 5 and Grade 7, which equates to a salary up to $72,000 + super. You will also have access to a work vehicle, salary packaging and great penalty rates for any weekend work or overtime. Council also offers employees a fortnightly RDO giving you plenty of time to explore and enjoy all that the Kyogle region has to offer.

Council is also open to discussing relocation assistance with the successful candidate, should you be moving to the region.
