About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections (Health Centre, Corporate Services, Public Health Unit, Sports and Recreation, and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allows them to have an holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi's mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services focusing on prevention and treatment in a culturally responsive way that empowers Aboriginal people to take more responsibility for their own health.

About the Opportunity 

Anyinginyi has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Therapeutic Worker to join the Health Services team in Tennant Creek, NT.

This role is being offered on a 2 year contract, renewable upon further funding.

Reporting to the Section Manager, Health Services Section, this position will be responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating counselling and therapeutic services relating to mental, behavioural and emotional disorders for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the Barkly region.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Undertaking triage, assessment, treatment/intervention and evaluation at an advanced level of practice to Aboriginal individuals, families and groups with complex needs;
  • Advocating on behalf of clients in the pursuit of a holistic services delivery framework of care, to encourage positive outcomes for individuals and families through multi-agency work;
  • Prioritising and coordinating a caseload of your own, including participating in clinical review meetings and case conferences; and
  • Supporting and liaising with patient, carers, colleagues, medical, nursing, allied health, support staff, external agencies and the private sector to provide coordinated multidisciplinary care.

Whilst the majority of service delivery is clinic based and will occur in Tennant Creek, occasional overnight travel to remote communities may be required, dependent on operational needs.

About You

To be successful in this role, you must be tertiary qualified and hold relevant registration as a Clinical Psychologist, Psychologist, Mental Health Social Worker or Occupational Therapist.

Due to the nature of the role, Anyinginyi is looking for someone with clinical experience and skills in the appropriate assessment, treatment and evaluation of Suicide Prevention, Trauma, Grief and Loss, Abuse including Domestic Violence, Anger Management, Person to Person Relationships, AOD use, some undiagnosed Mental Health issues, and Pregnancy and Early Childhood Development. 

Previous experience delivering primary health care services within an Aboriginal community will be highly regarded but is not mandatory.

Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A current Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required is also essential for this role.
