About the Organisation

Yipirinya School is one of only a few Independent Aboriginal Community Driven Schools in Australia. It was founded by Indigenous Elders in Alice Springs, and remains under control of a 100% Aboriginal Board. The only school in Australia that teaches four Aboriginal languages, Yipirinya School has a unique history and is at the cutting edge of Aboriginal Two Way Education.

About the Opportunity

Yipirinya School currently has an opportunity for a full-time Secondary Teacher to join their team in Alice Springs, NT.

Reporting to the School Principal, this role is responsible for providing an effective teaching program that caters for the individual needs of all students in the class. You will also implement teaching strategies that cater for the needs of teenage Aboriginal students and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, you will also be solely responsible for the creation, development and implementation of the secondary curriculum.

The position will oversee literacy and numeracy for Year 9 and 10 students in the mornings, and all other subjects for years 7-10 in the afternoons.

About You

Yipirinya School is seeking a tertiary qualified candidate who has teaching experience, ideally with teenagers. It is crucial you possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with parents and staff, and effectively engage with students.

Candidates with experience in Primary School environments will be highly regarded as their experience will be relevant to the learning environment at Yipirinya School. Experience working with Aboriginal students will also be highly regarded, however is not essential as long as you possess the ability to act in a culturally sensitive manner, and a desire to contribute to closing the gap in Indigenous education.

This position will suit a driven education professional who demonstrates warmth, and patienceFlexibility and adaptability will be key to your success in this role, as you'll be working within a frequently changing environment. Strong initiative and a solutions focused mindset will ensure your ability to stay calm and move forward in the face of challenges.

Please Note: To be considered, you must hold a current Ochre Card / Working With Children Check and be registered (or able to obtain registration) as a teacher in the Northern Territory prior to commencing employment.
