About the Opportunity

Boorowa Council now has an exciting opportunity for a skilled Engineering Works Manager to join their multidisciplinary team in beautiful Boorowa, NSW.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will primarily be responsible for managing a range of road and infrastructure activities, including project delivery, budget control and contract management. You will aim to achieve an integrated and planned approach to the construction, repair and maintenance of the Council's road and infrastructure assets.

More specifically, some of your daily tasks will include (but may not be limited to):

  • Monitoring, managing and reviewing project plans, budgets and works schedules;
  • Overseeing contracted engineers and other technicians to support the effective delivery of projects;
  • Ensuring timely and effective notification and consultation with affected parties prior to project commencement;
  • Developing strong relationships with consultants, contractors, suppliers, planning and other authorities;
  • Ensuring the Council meets its reporting and contractual obligations;
  • Liaising and negotiating with the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to maximise efficiency;
  • Providing ongoing guidance, support, coaching and training to direct reports; and
  • Implementing, monitoring and complying with the Council's WHS systems.

The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline and ideally will be eligible for membership to the Institute of Engineers Australia. Candidates with equivalent relevant experience in engineering works management will also be considered. You will be able to demonstrate your experience in contract management and project delivery. A background in the coordination of multifaceted projects will be highly regarded, as will Local Government experience.

You will have a high level of interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, allowing you to build and sustain positive relationships with key stakeholders and work collaboratively as part of a team. Your verbal and written communication skills will also come in handy when preparing complex reports and getting thoughts across clearly to others. An effective mentor, you will lead your team through inspiration, motivation and support.

Additionally, you will be an independent individual with strong self management skills. Your ability to prioritise your workload will ensure you manage all tasks and requirements effectively in order to meet deadlines.

You will have strong computer skills and be proficient in a range of systems, including Microsoft Office and civil engineering software. Proven research, analytical and problem solving skills will also be key to your success.
