About the organisation

Boort District Health (BDH) is a regional public hospital that provides community emergency and a range of health care services. A smaller hospital, BDH features less than 50 beds, which allows their staff to delivery quality, flexible and responsive health services to their patients. The organisation works on a vision of enrichment of health and wellbeing in the community and provides services which are individually tailored and very client focused. The staff are a highly ethical, hard-working team who are able to provide a range of specialised services including aged care, palliative care, physiotherapy, dental and podiatry. Boort District is currently in a growth period and is in the process of building a new Aged Care facility which will be focused on the delivery of high level, respectful care to its patients.

About the region

Situated in the rural farming area of Loddon Shire in Victoria, Boort, also known as 'The Northern Oasis' is a charming little place with a population of only 800! Located in the hills and surrounding Little Lake Boort, this setting is not only visually enticing but also naturally pristine. A perfect destination for the adventurer, there are many opportunities for camping, boating and other outdoor activities as well as day trips and childrens farm activities. Boort is only a short car trip from the central hub of Bendigo which boasts many popular restaurants and shopping malls, making it the perfect location to escape the inner-city lifestyle but still retain the convenience of city living.

About the opportunity  

Boort District Health is currently seeking a Care & Development Manager (Aged Care) with a deep understanding of Montessori, Steiner or Eden principles to join the hardworking team in Boort, Victoria. This is a full time contract position to 31/12/2016.

This role is specified to Aged Care, and entails the development and implementation of a new strategic plan to build credibility for the organisation. This is to support people to live in their homes for longer to enrich the health & wellbeing of their community. Additionally you will be responsible for building strategies around person-centered care, dignity and respect for our elderly residential clients.

Your day to day activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Effectively communicate between BDH client care and stakeholders in a professional manner;
  • Creation of home care packages and meaningful activity plans for clients;
  • Ongoing development of business strategies to support the business strategic plan;
  • Building relationships with all members of staff and networking throughout the community;
  • Develop and implement new staff education plans;
  • Development of new community programs to increase volunteer rates; and
  • Completion of administration reports as required.

The successful applicant will have background experience in teaching or clinical fields, enabling them with the capacity to assist in relationship building, networking and negotiating with staff to achieve strategy goals. This position requires a natural leader with strong negotiation skills and demonstrated skills in developing partnerships with outcomes that improve delivery of care.

Previous experience with redesigning structure within the health sector would be highly advantageous. The ideal candidate will also have a deep understanding of Montessori, Steiner or Eden principles, and will be able to champion these through the organisation, however this is not essential for this role.

A task-orientated self-starter, you are motivated to 'get in and do' rather than simply dreaming about results. You have a passion for  Aged Care and a true desire to improve the lives of the elderly within the wider community. You will also be highly a supportive individual who is a strong listener & communicator and an eternal optimist.

Ideally, this candidate would also be extensively experienced in change management, have relevant qualifications (including post graduate management skills) and have an innate ability to spot gaps in training and plan implementation.

The successful applicant will also have access to a work car/ be entitled to mileage reimbursement for the small amount of travel that is required for the role.
