About the Opportunity
Smithfield has an opportunity for an experienced Livestock Manager to join their team based in Proston, QLD, on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Livestock Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for leading and managing the livestock team of six staff, ensuring day-to-day livestock operations and systems are adhered to, alongside maintaining an exceptional level of animal welfare.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing a high level of leadership to the livestock team, including workload management, rostering, and conducting team meetings and performance reviews;
- Overseeing all facets of cattle processing;
- Liaising with health support businesses and feedlot nutritionists for updates and performance information;
- Liaising with feed mill staff regarding cattle movements and pen changes;
- Ensuring cattle health and hospital hygiene is maintained;
- Overseeing drafting and dispatch to ensure correct and accurate drafting;
- Reviewing kill grids and kill compliance; and
- Relevant reporting and documentation as required.
Smithfield is seeking a candidate who has demonstrated prior experience in livestock management, alongside a thorough understanding of the cattle industry and cattle feeding and processing operations. Proficient cattle handling and horse riding skills are also a requirement of this role.
You’ll be an engaging leader, with the ability to lead by example and work alongside your team when needed. Strong people management skills with the ability to effectively manage staff workloads will be key to your success in this highly varied role.
Importantly, you will uphold the highest standard of animal welfare, ensuring to maintain and improve all systems, policies and procedures in place for livestock operations. In addition, candidates must have strong computer literacy, with the ability to use Stock Aide and FY 3000 software or similar programs.
Candidates who have an Agricultural or Veterinarian Chemical Accreditation, First Aid Training, or additional machinery licences will be considered favourably, however Smithfield is willing to assist successful candidates in gaining these certifications.
Please note: It is a requirement of this role that successful candidates have a current driver’s licence and a current gun licence prior to commencement of this position.
