About the Organisation

The Wheatbelt GP Network is a NFP regional leader in primary health care delivery across the Wheatbelt region of WA. The Network is a progressive service provider that works with health professionals, hospitals, three levels of government, local agencies and community members to deliver integrated, evidence based, multidisciplinary primary healthcare. 

The Network supplies GP, nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics, diabetic education, Aboriginal health, counselling, psychology, ultrasound, pathology collection and support services. Services are delivered from 5 sites, as well as through outreach services. The Wheatbelt Health Centre (WHC) is a modern facility built in partnership with the Commonwealth under the super clinics program and is the flag ship facility for the Network. Whilst there may be work across a range of locations the majority of the work will focus on areas that are hard to reach and maybe anywhere in the Wheatbelt region.

About the Opportunities

Wheatbelt GP Network currently has multiple rewarding opportunities for Mental Health Workers to join their team in Northam, WA on a full-time basis. 

Mental Health Nurse

The Mental Health Nurse will be responsible for providing focused psychological strategy services to clients referred to the organisation under ATAPS and related programs across the Wheatbelt region of WA.

In order to be successful, you'll hold qualifications in Mental Health, along with registration with AHPRA.

Additionally, you'll require the following:

  • Advanced skills in managing mental health problems and disorders, including assessment and diagnosis of mental health problems;
  • Experience in individual and group based psychoeducation and therapeutic programs;
  • A background working from a strengths based approach and within a trauma informed therapeutic framework;
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, delivering evidence based, short term, solutions-focussed psychological strategies;
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, delivering psychological services in relation to prevention, early identification, and therapeutic recovery-based models;
  • An understanding of the primary health care setting and the ability to work with GPs, other health practitioners and external stakeholders;
  • Sound computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, patient information and recall systems.

 

Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

The Mental Health Social Worker will be responsible for providing focused psychological strategy services to clients referred to the organisation under ATAPS and related programs across the Wheatbelt region of WA.

In order to be successful, you'll hold a Masters level qualification in social work, along with AASW accreditation in Mental Health.

Additionally, you'll require the following:

  • Advanced skills in managing mental health problems and disorders, including assessment and diagnosis of mental health problems;
  • Experience in individual and group based psychoeducation and therapeutic programs;
  • A background working from a strengths based approach and within a trauma informed therapeutic framework;
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, delivering evidence based, short term, solutions-focussed psychological strategies;
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, delivering psychological services in relation to prevention, early identification, and therapeutic recovery-based models;
  • An understanding of the primary health care setting and the ability to work with GPs, other health practitioners and external stakeholders;
  • Sound computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, patient information and recall systems.

 

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health Worker

The ATSI Mental Health Worker will be responsible for providing a high standard of social and emotional wellbeing services to members of the ATSI community across the Wheatbelt, WA.

In order to be successful, you'll be a registered ATSI Health Worker, with a Cert IV or higher in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.

Additionally, you'll require the following:

  • Experience in mental health service provision, including assessing risk of harm to self or others;
  • Experience working with people from Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander and culturally & linguistically diverse backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of mental health and social issues relating to Aboriginal people, and factors which adversely affect Aboriginal health outcomes;
  • A background working in a primary health or community setting; and
  • Sound computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, patient information and recall systems.

Please note: All roles require a current driver's licence and the ability to acquire a Working with Children Check and Police Clearance. Travel to outreach/remote regions is a component of all roles.
