About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections covering a wide array of services such as clinical care and social and emotional well being, health promotions, sports and active lifestyle and administrative services. This diversity allows for a holistic approach to health, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi health service delivery area stretches north of Tennant Creek to Elliott, across to the east, almost to the QLD border and south to Ali Curung - almost 150,000 square km.

About the Opportunity 

Anyinginyi now has an opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join their Child and Maternal Health Team. This is a full-time role based in Tennant Creek, NT. It is initially being offered on a 1-2 year contract basis, with extension likely for the right person, subject to funding. 

Reporting to the Practice Nurse Manager, this role will see you delivering, and making accessible, a range of culturally appropriate health services to children and families in Tennant Creek and surrounding communities. While the majority of work will be in the field of Child and Maternal Health, the Child and Maternal Health Nurse will also be required to provide general health services to all community members.

More specifically, some of your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Providing support services in the area of infant and child nutrition; parenting skills; immunisation; child health and development; home safety for children; and maternal and neonatal care;
  • Working in collaboration with other Child and Maternal Health stakeholders (Grow Well Team, Midwifery Group Practice, Territory Families, NT Maternal, Alice Springs Hospital Paediatric Team and Child Health Nurse) to improve delivery of Child and Maternal Health services;
  • Assisting with clinical skills training and preparation of child health resources/material for ongoing staff education needs as required; and
  • Providing advice to clients on diet, smoking, drugs and other lifestyle issues involved in clients health and make appropriate referrals to other service providers.

About You

To be considered for this position you will be an AHPRA Registered Nurse with relevant experience within the field of child and maternal health, immunisation, child safety or similar. Any experience living or working in a remote area and/or working within an Aboriginal controlled primary health care service, will be highly regarded. 

Key to your success will be an understanding of the primary health care system and issues relevant to closing the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the ability to communicate and support the delivery of culturally responsive programs and services.

You will be self-motivated, resilient, and able to maintain accurate records with minimal supervision. A willingness to incorporate local values and protocols in wellbeing programs and services, will be a must.

Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required, is also essential for this role.
