About the Opportunity

Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW (Northern Region) now has multiple opportunities for Rural Financial Counsellors to join their team, based in Tamworth, Moree and the Hawkesbury & Lower Hunter regions of NSW. These position are being offered on a full-time 12 month contract, starting immediately, with extension being subject to funding.

As a Rural Financial Counsellor you will be primarily responsible for providing assistance to primary producers, fishers and small rural businesses experiencing financial difficulties by analysing their financial circumstances and identifying their financial and business options. You will help clients identify ways to become self-reliant and better equipped to manage change and adjustment.

Some of your day-to-day duties will include assisting and supporting a client to:

  • Understand the financial position and viability of the business enterprise;
  • Attending field days and community events to build a network and profile in the community;
  • Identify options to improve their financial position;
  • Develop a plan to implement the options chosen by the client and provide advice to implement that plan; and
  • Assist in negotiations with lending institutions in relation to: loan applications and contracts with those institutions, and processes relating to farm debt mediation

About you

A Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling) is highly desirable, along with other finance related qualifications. You will also have demonstrated experience in case management along with the ability to prepare detailed financial analyses for clients and the ability to present a range of financial and business options for business improvement or adjustment, with a focus on helping clients adapt and change.

RFCSNSW-NR are looking for someone with high level oral communication, interpersonal, mediation and networking skills, including the ability to effectively interact with diverse cultural groups. Ideally you will have some experience in business development or a banking background, however this is not mandatory providing you are a confident and approachable person who can quickly gain the confidence of the local community. You will possess a strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite as these platforms will be used extensively.

An understanding of rural issues, including farm enterprise activities and business management issues, will also be critical to your success in this position. Importantly, you will be a motivated professional who is capable of meeting deadlines yet still producing quality work. 

About the Benefits

This is a rare opportunity to provide a positive and much needed service to regional communities in NSW.  

For your hard work and dedication you will be rewarded with a remuneration package circa $80,000 - $90,000 (depending on experience and qualifications). Salary packaging up to $15,900 plus a vehicle for work and limited private use is also included.
