About Brophy Family and Youth Services and the Orange Door Initiative
A key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Family Violence was to establish a network of Support and Safety Hubs across Victoria. This was to provide a new way of working with women, men, children and young people experiencing family violence and families who need assistance with the care and wellbeing of children. This enables access to services in a safe and supportive environment.
The Orange Door Initiative was implemented across Victoria as the intake point for Family Violence and Child Wellbeing issues. The safety of victim survivors is the Orange Door's first priority. The Orange Door also helps to maintain focus on perpetrators, so the risk they pose can be assessed and they are held to account for their behaviour.
Brophy Family and Youth Services is a quality Child Safe accredited, not-for-profit organisation. We provide a wide range of family, youth and children services across South-west Victoria. We work closely with the Orange Door to build the capacity of vulnerable families and individuals to enable them to self-manage and be the best they can be through referrals to many of our program areas.

What's behind the Orange Door?
Multiple opportunities now exist for Hub Practitioners to join the Orange Door program.
- 5x FT or PT positions, based in Warrnambool
- 2x FT or PT positions, based in Heywood
As a Hub Practitioner you will provide an entry point for men, women and children who require family violence services with a primary focus on risk assessment and risk management. There will in addition be some intake and assessment and casework required.
Reporting to the Team Leader of the Orange Door, you will work within a diverse team of professionals to achieve program goals and client outcomes while maintaining records and actively participating in, and contributing to program service planning.
The successful candidates will be generously rewarded with an above award remuneration of $84,989 - $88,848 PLUS super and salary packaging options. A further range of benefits include 11 annual well-being days (pro-rata'd), in addition to your annual leave, supervision, mentorship and learning and development opportunities.
Your core duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Responding promptly to referrals using the Orange Door framework and tools to complete intakes, screening and to triage cases that present;
- Providing immediate assessment and planning responses to respond to any immediate crisis and/or short-term issues while awaiting allocation to core services if required;
- Providing appropriate referrals to the South West Family Services Alliance for, and specialist Family Violence and Perpetrator services; and
- Where required, work with families on a short-term basis while they await allocation. This may include outreach home visits and telephone counselling, support and monitoring of needs.

What you will bring to the team
To be considered you must hold a Bachelor of Social Work, Diploma in Community Welfare or an equivalent recognised qualification. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Family and Domestic Violence or Child Protection will also be advantageous to your success.
Ideal candidates will have demonstrated skills and experience in child and family risk assessment, coupled with experience in client intakes, referral processes, counselling, casework and consultation. You'll need to be an adaptable individual and comfortable working in a fast-paced role.
With strong communication skills, you'll demonstrate the ability to liaise with a diverse range of clients, and be empathetic and respectful of all individuals and their circumstances.
