About EREA Flexi

EREA Oscar Romero Flexi Schools Network now has exciting and rewarding opportunities for Teachers to join the team full-time, in Alice Springs.

Reporting to the Principal and Network Principal, these roles will see you responsible for implementing teaching strategies that cater to the needs of Aboriginal young people who have disengaged from mainstream education and may have Language, Literacy and Numeracy difficulties. You will not be required to stick rigidly to the curriculum but will have the freedom to creatively develop an encouraging learning experience that provides students with the opportunity to achieve their potential.

These are not your traditional teaching roles, you will be encouraged to use your creativity to develop individual learning plans for your students. This will assist them in engaging with learning again and provide positive learning and well-being outcomes. As such, your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not be limited to:

  • Collaborating with teachers and youth workers to develop and implement individualised learning plans for each young person that include literacy and numeracy development, well-being and local Aboriginal cultural perspectives;
  • Supporting young people to access support services such as counselling, health support and community activities;
  • Working with the team to develop cultural links, community and family connections that support the engagement and connection of young people to the FLC and First Nations and the broader communities;
  • Collaborating with the team to support a socially inclusive program that responds to the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and cultural needs of young people; and
  • Participating in the daily routines and activities of the FLC, including morning meetings, lunch, bus pick-up and drop-offs, electives, outings and camps.

These are challenging roles where you will be working in a hands-on capacity with disenfranchised individuals. However, the ability to engage with these individuals and witness their growth and progression will bring a satisfaction not always found in traditional teaching roles.

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Teaching and be eligible for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Northern Territory.
  • Demonstrated classroom experience in a diverse Primary or Secondary educational environment; and
  • Be eligible for a Working with Children Clearance.

Due to the educational level of the students, candidates with an ability to focus on literacy and numeracy are preferred, and significant experience in Primary or Secondary schools where students are disengaged and disenfranchised will be highly regarded.

You will have demonstrated skills and knowledge of the teaching process, frameworks and practice, as well as the ability to analyse complex situations and implement appropriate strategies to enhance the professional practice of teaching and non-teaching staff.

Resilient, you will understand the challenges of working with disenfranchised individuals and how these will impact the individual and yourself. You will also bring an understanding of the role community connections and cultural competencies in the First Nations space will have in addressing these challenges.

Although not essential, experience in specialist areas such as adventure-based learning, STEM teaching and/or special education would be looked upon favourably.
