About the Opportunity

Marine Rescue NSW is seeking a full-time Emergency Systems Officer based in Cronulla, NSW.

This role supports the Emergency Systems Manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining state-wide radio communications and emergency services management systems, working closely with the IT team and operational functional areas.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in managing the Marine Rescue radio network and associated technology systems
  • Supporting the ROIP network, including NBN services, Telstra MPLS, Public Safety Network, and private radio systems
  • Coordinating and administering competitive procurement for suppliers and services related to MRNSW communications infrastructure
  • Contributing towards managing budgets for IT and radio network projects and expenses
  • Assisting in the maintenance and review of standard operating procedures related to MRNSW Communications and IT
  • Identifying and developing emerging technologies and systems that support marine communications

About You

To qualify for this role, you must have demonstrated experience in implementing, supporting, and coordinating technology systems, including radio communications and IP network systems. Ideally, you will bring at least 3-4 years of technical experience in a relevant field, showcasing your ability to navigate complex systems and a demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt. A licence to operate VHF radio and a current and valid driver's licence will also be essential.

This role is ideally suited for individuals from a radio or communications background, with a solid understanding of contemporary data networks and their integration with radio systems.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Familiarity with VHF/UHF radio systems, with relevant qualifications
  • Practical experience in the maritime or emergency services sector
  • Understanding of the radio communications regulatory environment in Australia
  • Understanding of the telecommunications regulatory environment in Australia
  • Network experience on IP systems (NBN services, MPLS, LTE, and private microwave)
