About the opportunity

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Floodplain Management Officer on a permanent, full-time basis, to be part of our Asset Design team, to provide stewardship for Council’s floodplains.

You will be required to work with specialist consultants to prepare flood, and floodplain risk management studies. You will provide a professional and technical advice on matters relating to floodplains, stormwater infrastructure, and overland flow paths to our internal and external customers. Additionally, the position will be responsible for managing and organising flooding information.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental), or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing or reviewing flood studies, floodplain risk management studies and plans within budget, time and quality standards
  • Demonstrated experience in project management
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare correspondence, reports and submissions describing flooding information in plain English
  • Demonstrate experience in managing and working with multiple internal and external stakeholders and managing multiple projects with conflicting priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of GIS, hydraulic and hydrological applications such as QGIS, WaterRIDE, TUFLOW, WBNM and DRAINS
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service 
  • Current class ‘C’ driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer membership of Engineers Australia or ability to obtain
  • Experience in Local Government. 

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $2,011.56 per week
  • 35-hour working week
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
