The role 

As the Wellbeing Officer, you will work with a team of safety specialists to contribute to the overall wellbeing of employees at MidCoast Council. This is a rewarding opportunity where you will be involved in the development and implementation of programs, initiatives, and resources which foster wellbeing and resilience.

As an advocate for positive workplace culture and employee wellbeing, you will lead change, provide support, and participate in the development of strategies and activities in line with a broad range of Council operational areas. To succeed in this role, you will have proven experience in facilitating the continuous improvement of Work Health Safety and Wellbeing programs across all levels of the organisation. 

  • Assessment and Support: Conduct wellbeing assessments, identify areas of concern, and develop response programs.
  • Program Development: Design and deliver wellbeing programs, workshops, and events.
  • Health Promotion: Encourage healthy lifestyle choices through education and awareness campaigns.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond to critical incidents and provide immediate triage and referral to appropriate support services.
  • Collaboration: Build effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including HR, management, and other relevant departments.
  • Data Collection: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of wellbeing initiatives.
  • Injury Management:  Engage with injured workers to provide support throughout the injury management and return to work process.
  • Mental Health Advocacy: Promote mental health awareness in order to reduce stigma and increase workplace wellbeing.

About you 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human or Health Services, or Work Health & Safety, coupled with demonstrated experience working in a related field.
  • Experience in wellbeing initiatives and programs delivered within a business or organisaiton. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, compassion, confidentiality and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Experience in return to work coordination advantageous.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.

Salary: Base salary $80,600 p.a. plus superannuation. (commencing salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate depending on qualifications, skills and experience)  

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
