Band 3 - Salary Range $67,833 to $71,555 per annum + 11.5% Super + ADO

Salary offered will depend on level of skills and experience.

 

The Opportunity

Melton City Council is seeking a Certified gardener to plan, prepare, and implement landscape improvements by utilizing horticultural knowledge operating machinery safely, and maintaining plant equipment to ensure high standards of open space management in alignment with council’s goals.

The certified gardener will support the implementation and quality systems by adhering to Occupational Health and safety practices, reporting hazards and faults, and providing excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders, while collaborating with the team

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare concepts and sketches for planned improvements pertaining to landscape based applications and horticultural knowledge. 
  • Ensure the safe operation of machinery and undertake work in accordance with safe work practices and Occupational Health and Safety requirements. 
  • Assist in the implementation, and contribute to Council's Occupational Health and Safety system, City Safe in relation to the works in Parks and Open Space. 
  • Assist in completion of plant maintenance checklists and perform routine maintenance on plant and machinery. 
  • Contribute to the auditing processes of Council by reporting hazards, faults, defects, and opportunities for continuous improvement via the Internal Request Sheet

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Industry related trade qualification or apprenticeship in Horticulture or an associated discipline is required.
  • Experience in the delivery of minor improvement works in public open space and private industry.
  • Experience with Garden and landscape design and construction.
  • Experience in the safe operation of equipment and machinery in a commercial environment.
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
