About the Position
Located on a hillside in the historic and picturesque suburb of Toowong in Brisbane, our fully accredited service of St John's Home for Men is focused on providing excellent 24 hour nursing and care assistance for men. St John's Home for Men also provides special accommodation and recreational amenities for those with dementia, mental health issues and behavioural disorders.
We are currently looking for two casual Support Service Workers to join our kitchen team, covering both planned and unscheduled leave. With a professional manner and friendly disposition, you will have experience working in a similar environment, and be willing and able to work all shifts as required - sometimes at short notice and on weekends.
The overall purpose is to assist the cook/chef in the preparation and serving of meals for residents. This role is also responsible for the cleaning of designated kitchen utensils and areas, and, in conjunction with other roles in the facility, encourage physical and social independence; support a safe home-like environment and safeguard the dignity and privacy of residents.
About You
As a motivated and skilled Food Services Assistant/Kitchen Hand within the Aged Care sector, you will offer the following abilities and experience:
- Assisting with meal preparation and service
- Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy and ensuring Food Safety Guidelines are adhered to
- Support senior staff with special occasion requests including birthdays
- Menu planning and commitment to dietary requirements
- Operation of Food Service equipment in-line with instructions
- Confident communicator who can maintain professional boundaries with clients and their families
- Experience working within designated timeframes
- An open and enthusiastic manner with a commitment to working with elderly people
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
The following will also be required of successful applicants:
- Previous experience in food preparation within a Residential Aged Care environment
- Understanding of Infection Control/Bacterial hazards and Safe Food Handling
- Physical capability of meeting the requirements of the role
- A current National Police Certificate
- A Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) will be highly regarded
