About the Organisation

Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) was first incorporated in 1989 as the governing representative body for the Spinifex People. It was established to enable the Spinifex people to receive and administer funds to develop infrastructure at Tjuntjuntjara, in remote Western Australia. Since then PTAC has grown to administer the Health Service, the Tjuntjuntjara Community Store, the Women’s Centre, the community Telecentre, the Tjuntjuntjara Community Resource Centre and a range of other programs and infrastructure related projects. PTAC also acts as a local council service provider – managing the RJCP, CDEP and NJCP programs, water, power, sewerage, housing maintenance and community development projects.

About the Tjuntjuntjara Community, WA

The Tjuntjuntjara community is situated 660km north east of Kalgoorlie, approximately 8 hours drive, in the Spinifex region of south-east WA. The community, which falls within the boundaries of the Great Victoria Desert Nature Reserve, has a population of approximately 230 people and was established in 1988. Tjuntjuntjara acts as a service centre for the Ilkulka outstation, with the Ilkulka Roadhouse located along a highway through the Great Victoria Desert. Tjuntjuntjara is an alcohol-free community.

About the Remote Jobs and Communities Program (RJCP)

The Remote Jobs and Communities Program (RJCP) is the Australian Government’s approach to providing employment services, participation activities and associated community engagement in remote Australia. RJCP commenced on 1 July 2013, and aims to achieve personal, social and economic development through active participation, jobs and strong communities in remote Australia.

RJCP is based on community ownership and involvement; it encourages and promotes collaborative, community-driven approaches to conducting employment and participation activities.

About the Opportunity

PTAC has a fantastic opportunity for a RJCP Coordinator to join its team in Tjuntjuntjara, WA.

Reporting to the PTAC General Manager and Board, you will be responsible for coordinating the RJCP program managed by PTAC. This will involve assisting the community in meeting aspirations contained in the Community Action Plan, Workforce Development Strategy and Training Plan. 

More specifically, some of your key duties will include:

  • Maintaining the DEEWR online system and managing RJCP participant caseloads;
  • Monitoring strategic plans and maintaining the RJCP task management database;
  • Working closely with the PTAC Board and General Manager to ensure RJCP compliance;
  • Ensuring plans are kept up-to-date with community aspirations;
  • Liaising with community and agency stakeholders in supporting RJCP outcomes for the Tjuntjuntjara community;
  • Ensuring timely delivery of submissions and reports; and
  • Conducting ongoing community consultation and updating the Community Action Plan and community goals.

To be successful, you will have a qualification in a relevant area (such as human services, employment services, community development, social work or community development), as well as significant experience in a relevant position. You'll have a demonstrated understanding of RJCP, including its operating landscape, mechanisms and funding. Ideally, you'll also have experience in managing a cross-cultural team within an organisation or local government body.

In this leadership role, your strong analytical and problem solving skills will see you developing and implementing strategies to improve service delivery. You'll have strong negotiation skills which will help you to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, across different traditional backgrounds. Additionally, you'll also have excellent oral and written communication skills.

PTAC is seeking applications from highly professional, organised and motivated team-oriented individuals, with great conflict resolution and management skills. High level computer skills and a knowledge of organisational IT systems is also important to your success in this role.

The successful applicant will need to have a current C class driver's licence and a current Federal Police clearance.
