About the Opportunity 

drummond street has a fantastic opportunity for a full-time Senior Child and Family Practitioner (Family and Relationship Services) to join the Family Services team to support our work in Melbourne's Inner Northern suburbs. 

Reporting to the Family Services Manager, you will be responsible for providing, and supporting other practitioners to provide, high quality child and family prevention and early intervention supports. Your focus will be on couples and families to strengthen relationships and reduce risks for a range of health and wellbeing outcomes for all family members. 

Key responsibilities of this pivotal role include:

  • Designing, delivering, developing and evaluating intentional, evidence based, outreach and centre ­based programs;
  • Developing and implementing individual case plans for all cases based on sensitive and thorough assessment;
  • Provide psycho­social and skills ­based educational seminars and group work for couples and families, addressing issues relating to mental health literacy, relationships, parenting, children and young people’s mental health, wellbeing and positive development.
  • Assertively engaging client cohorts with specific needs such as those with mental health, family violence, and substance abuse issues, including those considered socially marginalised or resource poor to lessen the impact of social exclusion; and
  • support the implementation of high quality family services practice by leading, mentoring and supervision of multi-disciplinary teams. 

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Family Therapy or Psychology and further training in relation to families work;
  • Have strong knowledge and experience in families services and/or mental health sectors;
  • Be able to demonstrate a knowledge and application of a range of therapeutic approaches for individuals, couples, families, including children and young people; and
  • Have a demonstrated knowledge and application of a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches as well as experience supporting individuals and families with complex issues such as mental health, family violence, and substance abuse.
